The Biking Gameplan

Updated: May 11, 2020

The Step by Step of my Biking Training

I realize that biking across the state of Florida is a very large goal. So large that it frightens. In order to avoid feeling overwhelmed, I'm breaking my training up into smaller daily tasks. These tasks, although tough, are more than doable in smaller sizes.

For Sunday through Thursday of each week, I'm choosing to spend 1 hour on my bike. The speed doesn't have to be intense save for one of those days. The idea is just to keep my legs moving, my lungs working, and my heart pumping. I'm free to watch TV at the gym, listen to a podcast, or even ride with others on Zwift.

On Friday I will take a much needed and enjoyable rest.

Saturday is where there is a deviation. I'm planning 4 Saturdays of training leading up to the bike ride. The first will have a 1 hour ride, the second a 2 hour ride, and so on. The other days will get my legs in ready, but Saturdays will be endurance preparation.

The first virtue in a soldier is endurance of fatigue; courage is only the second virtue. - Napoleon Bonaparte, French Military Leader

Patience and Preparation

Biking can be a game of flying through the crossroads of America. It can also be a slow and laborious grind of the pedals. When the tough times come, I want to be prepared. I'm hoping a 4 hour bike ride will have me ready for my full day in Florida ahead.
